So this next Wednesday I have the awesome opportunity to share the Gospel at our church's VBS. The whole week the kids will be learning about the life of Peter. So obviously as I began to get ready I started refreshing my memory on the stories of Peter. Wow what an incredibly failed successful life. Ya I said it "failed successful" life. I mean this is a guy who was on a beach and Jesus says follow me and he drops it all and follows. Don't all of us want to live that life of when Jesus calls us to move in form of obedience that we would drop everything and follow Him. Peter is also the guy that said Jesus if that is you then command me to come out on the water and I will. Not only did he say it but he did and he was blessed in His obedience by the opporutnity to walk on water. Though he did follow walking on water by quickly sinking by a lack of faith and trust in Jesus. Man that was quick. Peter is the man that Jesus asked, "who do you say that I am?" Peter responded with hesitiation, "You are Christ the Messiah." To which Jesus said, "Upon this rock I will build my church." How would you like Jesus to make such a statement in response to your statement. Heck some of us just want a parent or boss to say something like that to us let alone Jesus. Though he did follow that up by telling Jesus that he didn't know what He was taling about and Jesus saying, "Get behind me satan." OUCH! I will build my church on this rock to satan. Then the one we all know and remember where Peter said, I will never leave you or deny you Jesus to three times him telling reandom people I have no idea who Jesus is and I have never been with Him. Even so Jesus goes on after His resurrection to tell Peter feed my sheep.
As I view my life I see so many more failures than this. I can onlyh hope that Christ would allow me to be used in half the ways that Peter was. What a comfort to be reminded I don't have to be perfect but I do have to just keep gettign up and placing Christ first and he will remain faithful even when I am faithless. (2 Timothy 2:13) Thank you Father that you never let go of us. That you always see Your Son in us. May I drop all and follow you today and continue to do the same even after I have failed misreably.
